How to Operate Turn Signal Switch

To Signal Turns:

Move switch handle in direction of turn. Green pilot light will flash to indicate proper functioning.

To Operate Emergency Flashers:

With switch handle in neutral position, pull the flare tab out. All signal lamps and red pilot light will flash for all-around vehicle protection. Note: Power lead must be connected to a line which is “hot” (+ side of battery) when ignition switch is off for hazard warning signals to operate when motor is not running!

To Release Emergency Flashers:

Move switch handle left or right. Flare tab will release automatically. Return switch handle to neutral position.

Troubleshooting:

Whenever working on your turn signal kit, be sure to remove the FUSE from the fuse holder to prevent shorts.

If the red pilot light (on the TSS) blinks and you don’t have the turn signals or the emergency flashers on: First, check the Pilot wire (blue) and the Load wire (yellow), they could be reversed on the flasher. Second, there could be moisture in the Turn Signal Switch or Flasher, from washing, rain, etc. You can dry out the TSS using a hair dryer, blow warm air through the space, where the TSS lever extends out of the turn signal switch.

If the red pilot light (on the TSS) stays on solid when you don’t have the turn signals or the emergency flashers on, although the turn signals & emergency flashers work properly: Check the Power wire (red) and the Load wire (yellow), they could be reversed on the flasher.

If the pilot light (on the TSS) is on, but the lights do not flash: Check the grounds at each Light and the TSS.

If you don’t have any pilot light (on the TSS) or lights on: Check the turn signal switch white ground wire (that runs to the negative side of the battery) and the power source to the flasher.

If the pilot light (on the TSS) doesn’t come on, but the turn signals and emergency flashers work: Check the pilot wire (blue wire from the turn signal switch) connection at the flasher, usually a bad crimped connector. Or, check the bulb in the turn signal switch for a broken filament, burned out.

If the LED Turn Signal Kit (TSK) lights come on (usually dim) but they do not flash: First, check the turn signal switch and LED lights for good ground connections. Second, with a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) set at 2000K ohms, check the LED flasher for continuity (a short) between the POWER and LOAD terminals. A good LED Flasher should read about 535K ohms (+/- 20K) and a shorted out Flasher will read 0 (dead short).

Washing UTV:

Be careful not to get water into the turn signal switch or flasher. I recommend that you place a plastic bag around the turn signal switch and flasher when washing with a hose.

If you get moisture in the turn signal switch or flasher, you can dry out the switch using a hair dryer. Blow warm air through the space, where the turn signal switch lever extends out of the turn signal switch.

How to Mount Turn Signal Switch (TSS) with Custom Plate for:

The toggle switches TS UTV / ATV LED Turn Signal Kit will fit the Polaris Sportsman, Magnum, Hawkeye & Trail Boss models, the Yamaha Grizzly, Kodiak, Viking, Wolverine & YXZ models, the Kawasaki Brute Force, Bayou, Prairie, Mule Pro, Mule SX & Teryx models, the Can-Am Outlander & Defender models, the Honda Rancher, Foreman, Rubicon, Rincon, Four Trax, Recon & Pioneer models, the Suzuki King Quad, Vinson & Eiger models and the Arctic Cat MudPro, Diesel, Thunder Cat and Wildcat models.

Some UTV's do not have room for a steering column mounted turn signal switch and some just like using toggle switches mounted on the dash. This kit can be easily installed on any ATV (quad), UTV (side-by-side), Golf Cart, Sand Car, Dune Buggy, etc. See all notes below.

Note: The steering column mounted turn signal switch is the safest and easiest to operate. We always recommend that you install a steering column mounted turn signal switch kit (stock# 104, 105 or 107-SM) on a UTV side-by-side (if you have the steering column space), for your added safety. A steering column mounted turn signal switch is located in the same area as your automobile, and comes natural for activating while keeping your eyes on the road.

Rocker Switch Mounting

Rocker Switch Terminals Contacts

How to Operate Turn Signal Rocker Switches

To Signal Turns:

Push rocker switch on for left turn and back off when completed. Push rocker switch on for right turn and back off when completed. Green LED pilot light will flash to indicate proper functioning.

To Operate Emergency Flashers:

Push both rocker switches on for emergency flashers. All signal lights and green pilot lights will flash for all-around vehicle protection. Push both rocker switches off when done to cancel the emergency flashers. Note: Power lead must be connected to a line which is “hot” (+ side of battery) when ignition switch is off for hazard warning signals to operate when motor is not running!

Troubleshooting:

Whenever working on your turn signal kit, be sure to remove the FUSE from the fuse holder to prevent shorts.

If the green pilot light, on the Rocker Switches is on, but the lights do not flash: Check the white wire ground at each LED light and the Left & Right black (Load) wire connections at each LED light & Rocker Switch.

If you don’t have any green pilot light on the Rocker Switches or turn signal lights on: Check the rocker switch white wire (earth) ground (see label on back of switch) & the white wire grounds from each light (that run to the negative side of the battery). Also, check the power source to the flasher and fuse. If the fuse is blown you have something wired wrong, check all wiring, flasher and rocker switches (Note 1, 2 & 3 below) before installing a new fuse (highly recommended).

If the green pilot light, on the Rocker Switches doesn’t come on, but the turn signals and emergency flashers work: Check the white wire ground (earth) connections at the rocker switches (see label on back of switches, top contact across from LED), usually a bad crimped connector.

If the turn signal lights come on (usually dim) but they do not flash: First, check the rocker switches and lights for improper ground connections. Second, with a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) set at 2000K ohms, check the LED flasher for continuity (a short) between the POWER (1) and LOAD (2) terminals, with the wire connectors removed from the flasher. A good LED Flasher will read about 5350K ohms (+/- 20K) and a shorted out Flasher will read 0 (dead short), see NOTE 1 & 4.

NOTE 1: A shorted out flasher is generally caused by improper wiring of the rocker switches and /or flasher. If the LED Flasher is shorted out I would recommend checking both rocker switches, see NOTE 2.

NOTE 2: Test a rocker switch with a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) set at 2000K ohms, check the Rocker Switches for continuity (a short) between the (supply) power and (earth) ground (see label on back of switch) terminals. A good switch will read 1 (open) and a shorted out switch will read 0 (closed).

NOTE 3: With NOTE 2 completed and the LED flasher removed from the circuit, put a wire jumper between flasher (fused power) and supply (rocker switches) connections to test the rocker switches for proper wiring. If the switches are wired properly you can turn them on & off several times separately & together without blowing the fuse and then implement the flasher. If fuse blows, you have something wired wrong or a shorted out rocker switch, see NOTE 2.

NOTE 4: Shorted out parts are not warrantied, so I recommend you follow Notes 1, 2 & 3 above.

Washing ATV:

Be careful not to get water into the flasher. I recommend that you place a plastic bag around the flasher when washing with a hose. If you get moisture in the flasher, you can dry it out using a hair dryer. Blow warm air through the space, where the connectors and cover meet.

How to Mount Toggle Switches (TS) & Indicator Lights

  1. Locate a good easy to reach area on your recreational vehicle for installing the toggle switches.

  2. Check to make sure there is space (2” inches or more) for the switches, wire connectors and indicator light leads.

  3. Drill 15/32nd (recommended) or ˝” inch holes to mount the toggle switches and 3/8” to 25/64th holes for the indicator lights.

  4. Remove the nuts & on/off plate, insert the switches through the 15/32nd holes & secure using the plate & mounting nut.

  5. Screw the rubber boots onto the toggle switches after you get them installed.

  6. Remove the nut & washer, insert the indicator lights through the 3/8” holes & secure with washer & mounting nut.

How to Operate Turn Signal Toggle Switches

To Signal Turns:

Push toggle switch on for left turn and back off when completed. Push toggle switch on for right turn and back off when completed. Green LED indicator light will flash to indicate proper functioning.

To Operate Emergency Flashers:

Push both toggle switches on for emergency flashers. All signal lights and green indicator lights will flash for all-around vehicle protection. Push both toggle switches off when done to cancel the emergency flashers. Note: Power lead must be connected to a source which is “hot” (+ side of battery) when ignition switch is off for hazard warning signals to operate when motor is not running! If you use a “key on” power source, remember you have to have the key on.

Troubleshooting:

Whenever working on your turn signal kit, be sure to remove the FUSE from the fuse holder to prevent shorts.

If the green indicator light is blinking, but the turn signal lights do not blink: Check the white wire grounds at each LED Turn Signal light and the Left & Right black wire connections at each LED Turn Signal light.

If you don’t have any green indicator light on or turn signal lights on: Check the power source to the flasher and fuse. If the fuse is blown you have something wired wrong, check all wiring, flasher and toggle switches (Note 1, 2 & 3 below) before installing a new fuse (recommended). If the fuse is OK and you have power to the flasher, check the load wire from the flasher to the toggle switches. If that is OK, then check all your grounds.

If the green pilot lights don’t come on, but the turn signals and emergency flashers work: Check the ground (green) wire connection on the indicator lights, usually a bad crimped connector.

If the turn signal lights come on (usually dim) but they do not flash: First, check the toggle switches and lights for improper connections. Second, with a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) set at 2000K ohms, check the LED flasher for continuity (a short) between the POWER (1) and LOAD (2) terminals, with the wire connectors removed from the flasher. A good LED Flasher will read about 535K ohms (+/- 20K) and a shorted out Flasher will read 0 (dead short), see NOTE 1 & 4.

NOTE 1: A shorted out flasher is generally caused by improper wiring of the toggle switches, LED lights and/or flasher. If the LED Flasher is shorted out I would recommend checking both toggle switches, see NOTE 2.

NOTE 2: Test a toggle switch with a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) set at 2000K ohms, check the Toggle Switches for continuity (a short) between the 2 terminals, with the switch in the off position & the wire connectors removed. A good switch will read 1 (open) and a shorted out switch will read 0 (closed).

NOTE 3: With NOTE 2 completed and the LED flasher removed from the circuit, put a wire jumper between flasher (fused power) & supply (toggle switches) connections to test the toggle switches for proper wiring. If the switches & lights are wired properly you can turn them on & off several times separately & together without blowing a fuse. If the fuse blows, something is wired wrong or shorted out, check all wiring thoroughly (recommended).

NOTE 4: Shorted out parts are not warrantied, so I recommend you follow Notes 1, 2 & 3 above.

Washing ATV:

Be careful not to get water into the flasher. I recommend that you place a plastic bag around the flasher when washing.

Happy Thanksgiving from EZ Turn Signal Kits
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at EZ Turn Signal Kits & Accessories.

I get asked a few times every month, why don’t you use the UTV/ATV rear OEM lights for the rear turn signals. The answer is very simple, I developed my Turn Signal Kits (TSK) to be completely independent for three main reasons. ONE, you do not want any feedback from the LED Electronic Flasher into the ECU of your UTV/ATV, that can cause problems with your machine. TWO, you do not want to affect (invalidate) your warranty by tapping into any existing OEM lights or wiring. THREE, you want both rear stop lights when activating the turn signals (like our automobiles), not just one. With all my different kits you will never have these concerns or issues.
